Wie und Was wir unterstützen wollen
In 2011, the Escola de Hotelaria e Tourismo Cabo Verde (EHTCV) was founded in the capital Praia on the island of Santiago. To date, it is the only hotel management school in Cape Verde. The hotel school offers apprenticeships in the hotel, catering and tourism sectors, including hotel management, restaurant & service, chefs and guides. Since 2018, a small subsidiary of the school has been established for short courses and workshops on the island of Sal.
However, the monthly tuition fee for training that must be charged to operate the school is prohibitive for many families. Even the flight from another island to Santiago or Sal is already an insurmountable hurdle for some families, so sending their children to the vocational school from other islands is out of the question.
Thus, most of the young people do not have a professional education and work in the hotels without the appropriate qualifications. Therefore, in the majority of cases, higher positions are filled by qualified foreign workers.
In order to give the native residents better job opportunities, we have selected students based on questionnaires and personal interviews, who will be provided with all educational costs for graduation from EHTCV.
