Mozambique classified as Corona risk area

Since December 2020, infection rates in Mozambique have been rising significantly. This is due to the increased occurrence of novel SARS-CoV-2 virus variants. For this reason, Mozambique has been classified as a risk area with a particularly high risk of infection by the German Federal Foreign Office.

Coronavirus in Mozambique – Current Situation

Despite intensive efforts to keep the number of coronavirus cases low in Mozambique, there is an upward trend in the number of infections. For this reason, head of state Filipe Nyusi extended the state of emergency on Sunday, June 28, 2020, for another 30 days - and for the third time in a row. It is valid now until 29 July 2020. In this way, the Mozambican president wants to avoid a new peak of the pandemic in his country to reduce the pressure on hospitals.
