Wie und Was wir unterstützen wollen
Equality between women and men in Mozambique is still not a matter of fact. Women's career opportunities for better-paying jobs are significantly lower, as women in Mozambique still traditionally take on the role of homemaker. Lower-income families focus much more on the education of sons and less on that of daughters.
During our trips in Mozambique, visiting different schools and meeting potential local partners, we were mentored by Carla Malate, a student working on a temporary basis for the German Mozambican Society (DMG) in Mozambique.
She told us about the fact that job prospects in Mozambique would be poor in the administration of hotel or other tourism businesses.
To improve her chances, we provided her with a three-month internship abroad in Germany at the headquarters of the German hotel company Success Hotel Group (SHGR) . During the internship, she also took and successfully completed a German course at beginner level A1.
The experience abroad as well as the language certificate constitute valuable additional qualifications that should give her an advantage when looking for a job in Mozambique.
SHGR covered the costs, while we took care of the organization and administration, e.g. visa and work permit applications.
