Together with the DHBW Ravensburg, we have created a new award for the best bachelor theses in the field of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy: Original Dual is provided by the FHF as FHF Bachelor Award.
Award for outstanding bachelor theses
We are very pleased to announce our new cooperation with the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) Ravensburg. From this year on, we will annually award the best three bachelor theses from the study program Tourism, Hospitality, and Gastronomy as Original Dual and present them with the FHF Bachelor Award, prize money of 500,00 € and a certificate.
As in real life, it’s not just the grade that counts: Bachelor theses are evaluated according to various aspects. A clean theoretical write-up with an accurate literature search and citation is of as much value as, for example, the correct application of the methodology to data analysis. Of further interest is the transfer performance into practice – how relevant is the discussed topic for the hospitality industry?
An expert jury of the DHBW Ravensburg examines all Bachelor theses for these aspects and selects the winners.
This year, the following award winners and topics were honored at the DHBW Alumni Forum on Jan. 25, 2019:
- Anne Flach: Overtourism in Germany – Critical Analysis of the Situation Development and its Effects Including Current Issues.
- Elena This: Employee turnover of Generation Y in the leisure industry – an expression of dissatisfaction or a desire for variety?
- Luisa Wolber: Identification of customer requirements at the Dorint Pallas Wiesbaden to derive recommendations for action for quality management.
Shortage of skilled workers in Germany
Working in the hospitality industry? Many young people in Germany no longer consider this, because the hospitality industry has to contend with several stereotypes. There is a perceived gap between the demands of young apprentices and industry specifics. The result is a massive shortage of skilled workers.
Yet the conditions and perspectives for young professionals in the hospitality industry are anything but bad. Qualified personnel is in high demand and hotels, restaurants and other companies in the industry are doing everything they can to retain good employees for the long term. In addition, career opportunities are particularly wide-ranging, and open positions often extend further than many imagine.
Particularly in times of digitalization, the hospitality industry is constantly reinventing itself and offers young graduates the chance to be creative and participate in change processes. The varied fields of activity also open the way to a highly individual career. You can do it by trying it out before you commit to it.
Appreciation for junior staff in the hospitality industry
Goal of the FHF Bachelor Award is to motivate young professionals in the tourism, hospitality and food service industries and to recognize their academic achievements. Bachelor’s theses are a prime example of how versatile work can be in the hospitality industry. The industry is anything but dusty and there are always new challenges for which solutions are created. With their Bachelor theses, the award winners have created solutions for current issues and this commitment is appreciated with the FHF Bachelor Award.
